Gurgaon: To corner the Central government on corruption and black money, social activist Anna Hazare and yoga guru Baba Ramdev will jointly sit on a one-day token fast in Delhi on June 3.
”We will sit on a one-day fast in Delhi. We will raise awareness among the people on a strong anti-corruption Jan Lokpal,” Hazare told a joint news conference along with Ramdev here today.
Hazare alleged that the Central government was ‘afraid’ of bringing a strong Jan Lokpal Bill as half of the ministers of the UPA government will be jailed if an effective and powerful Lokpal comes into effect.
The veteran Gandhian said he will tour Maharashtra from May 1 for a strong Lokayukta in the state. His campaign will start from Shirdi.
”I will meet the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister and leaders of other political parties in Maharashtra and discuss the Lokayukta on April 25-26. Then I will visit the whole state and spread awareness among the people of their (politicians) view on the Lokayukta,” the 74-year-old anti-graft activist added.
He stated that his movement will continue till 2014 when the general elections to the Lok Sabha are scheduled to be held.
Hazare informed that Team Anna has yet to decide whether to invite any politician in the movement.
Ramdev said the Congress-led UPA government ”has no moral right to remain in power” after a number of scandals including coal scam, 2G spectrum, Commonwealth Games and Adarsh society in which lakhs of crores of public money was looted.
The yoga guru said he will visit Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh from next month to increase awareness against corruption and black money.
Ramdev added that he was in touch with spiritual leader Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and other Gandhians and socialists to garner their support to the movement against corruption.
He said permission will be sought to organise the fast at the Jantar Mantar in the Capital on June 3.
