Shimla: Veteran actor Anupam Kher launched the first theatre workshop at Gaiety Theatre here today. “It is like a dream fulfilled. This town has given me so much and is like the nursery of my acting career and now it’s time to pay back,” Kher, 57, said. The four week long theatre workshop will groom budding actors. “My cherished dream is taking shape and this workshop will help local youth hone their skills and carve out a niche for themselves in the world of theatre,” he added. The actor also said that in the workshop, the students would be explained the fine points of theatre and learn stage acting. A play would also be produced at the end of the work shop which would be staged later in different parts of the country. Kher said that he would try and organise International Theatre Festival in Shimla next year. Kher also called on Chief Secretary, S Roy and Deputy Commissioner, Arun Sharma and held detailed discussions about opening a theatre academy in Himachal, preferably in Shimla. The actor’s father PN Kher, who lived in the hill station, passed away in January this year. The actor regularly visits Shimla and makes it a point to meet old friends.
