New Delhi:  Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar today said there is no need to ban sugar exports as global prices of the sweetener are lower than the domestic rates, making outbound shipments unviable.

Earlier in the day, a food ministry official said that it is considering putting a cap on sugar exports at 1.5 million tonnes for 2011-12 marketing year (October-September) to check any price rise on account of deficient monsoon.
