Ludhiana: Cotton growers have been asked by the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) to remove weeds grown around the crop saying it could lead to attack of mealy bug.

PAU experts, during a survey, found mealybug on weeds grown on the waste land, on roadside and water channel.

PAU’s Head of the Department of Entomology Uma Kanta said in some villages the pest was also observed on the border sides of cotton fields.
